All righty! You may or may not have heard that my dance company needs new costumes. Usually, they are about 400 to 500 bucks a piece for body, vest, skirt and petticoat but we've found a good and reliable company that will make us blank costumes for about 200 bucks which we then will "decorate" ourselves with glitter and swarovsky stones. In total, we need to raise 230 bucks a piece for 8 costumes.
So my sister had an idea to sell t-shirts. Sadly, us doing the shirts ourselves and then selling them will result in more work than money coming in plus we need to find the shirts up front. So we've decided to go with companies like Cafepress and Zazzle.
THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP!
My sister created a few non fandom graphics herself which she'll put up on a German website and offer them to our dance company and their families. Since I know that won't bring in a lot of money, I thought I could ask my fandoms for help. I want to put Farscape and Doctor Who shirts on Cafepress/Zazzle for sale.
My problem is though - I have no idea what to offer, let alone what people would be interested in.
What would you be interested in?
Do you have a graphic we could use?
How much would you be willing to pay?
And what would you be willing to pay for besides shirts?
We'd be eternally grateful for any input of any sort! Our goal is to get at least half the money for the costumes ourselves. I know, it's almost a grand and probably wishful thinking, but if we don't get a rather larger portion of funding set up for the costumes... we'll go naked! Seriously!
My sister spent the whole day on the phone today, trying to get local companies to sponsor us. Our deal was, you pay a costume, we will dance at two venues they host (personal or business) for free. Yeah well, good idea, right? Not so much if pretty much everyone tells you "but we already sponsored your kid group in 06/07". Right, you did. They needed to raise (hold your breath!) 500 bucks PER COSTUME! Well, that also included fabric for a coat for the parades, but still.... They needed 16 in total, so you do the math. They contributed 300 bucks themselves from selling cake and cookies, 4 grands were paid by the dance company, the rest was funded by local businesses.
