Okay, my harddrive is gone for good. My dad called a friend this morning who works for a data rescue center (which I didn't know). He checked the drive from the outside (so the warranty wouldn't be voided) and said it's probably an electronic malfunction cause he couldn't detect any noise that would indicate a mechanical failure. Besides, my freezer method didn't do a thing either which is another indication it's not a headcrash. He said my options would be to let him take the drive and he'd open it, void the warranty and check what's not working. He said he couldn't guarantee a thing, especially if it is an electronic malfunction. My other option would be to say goodbye to the data and return the drive tomorrow to get a new one since I still have warranty on it. Right now I have a "screw the data" attitude. Cause, let's face it, pretty much everything on the drive is replacable or uploaded on the internet EXCEPT my Vegas projects. But what am I gonna do with the projects anyway? I nowadays render my vids high quality enough for web download that they still look decent when converted to mpeg2 and burnt on a DVD. My older vids are crap quality, but really, who'd want to watch those on a DVD?
The only thing I lost in the process are 3 in process vids. Two of them (one a Tristan and Isolde vid to an Evanenscene song, the other a DW vid to Winter in my Heart) I wasn't gonna finish anyway I think. The last one was half of a Sweet Charity vid I owe
larissa_j. I had pretty much hit a dead spot with it anyway.
So, my options would be pretty much to either hand the drive to my dad's friend and let him mess with it without any kind of guarantee, voiding the warranty on the drive and having my sister shelf out another hundred bucks for a new external OR I just return the drive tomorrow and get a new one. I am more tending towards the latter option, especially since I know my sister didn't do it on purpose. But then there are the short few moments when I think I want my dad's friend to try his luck with the drive. Really short moments only though cause then I think, man, that'll be a hundred bucks down the drain without a guarantee for any results.....
