My sister kicked my new external harddrive off the couch earlier. And guess what - IT'S NOT WORKING ANYMORE!!!! The comp tells me I have the drive attached via USB, but I only get clicking sounds. AGAIN! I have all my vidding stuff on that harddrive. I COULD STRANGLE MY SISTER!

I wonder if I can stick a harddrive with the enclosure into the freezer. Last time I removed the drive but this one has a "warranty void if broken" seal on the enclosure so I can't remove the drive if I want to exchange it.

Yes, it is.

Obviously you'll need to remove the power and USB cables since the cabling won't do well in the cold:) The case will be a little brittle when you take it out of the freezer so keep your sister away from it lest she drop it again.

Sounds like your sister managed to crash the head into the platter for you. You're most likely going to lose whatever data was in that sector, block, track. It's better than losing the entire drive, though.

Sighh..which is what happened to me. I lost my entire drive (data recovery people had no luck with it) and all my vidding files. I am struggling to recreate my vid that was lost and it's a disheartening task. Jag, I hope you recover as much as possible....I'm thinking of you.

Other than that, I can offer commiseration and the suggestion that you kill your sister -- though the latter is generally frowned upon, I understand. :(
