So my computer died last night. I installed a game that
humansrsuperior suggested, it asked me to reboot, I did - and the comp was stuck in the booting sequence. It just showed me my processor speed and then nada. No checking of the RAM, nothing. I thought, oh frelling great! Now the comp is broken! I fiddled with a few setting, reset the bios, exchanged the RAM, took out all my cards except the graphics card - nothing. BTW, this might be the place to mention that since it was night and dark. I stuck my shiny screwdriver into the comp so I could see stuff LMAO
Anyways, this morning I went to a comp store. The guy didn't even let me finish and told me to bring the comp in because he needed to check it. It would take 2 days and gonna cost me 60 bucks. YIKES. So I went to another store, and the guy told me I could try this and that and everything and I told him I had already done so. Then he told me I really needed to bring it in. I wasn't gonna dare ask what it was gonna cost or how long it was gonna take - he said 20 bucks max and they'd do a quick check first while I waited and if they couldn't find anything, it could take maybe a day. So I decided I was gonna give them a try. 20 bucks plus whatever hardware had to replaced. I figured it was the mainboard of sorts since I have two RAM chips and I didn't think they'd break at once. Neither was working on its own. Anyways, brought the comp in, guy hooked it up, wouldn't start. So I opened the case, turned it on again and immediately found the problem. My CPU fan was broken. Apparently the mainboard switches itself off when it doesn't find a CPU fan. I didn't even think about checking the stupid fan!!! He put in a new one, et voila, my big blue box ran again, phew. Cost me 12 bucks for a new CPU fan! I then decided to also get an additional case fan for 4 bucks. Got home, put the comp on the kitchen table, opened it up, and started putting the fan in when my roomy came into the kitchen. Now imagine me, screwdriver in one hand, sonic screwdriver in the other so I had light, screwing in the case fan (now that was a lot os screw in that sentence....).I felt like the Doctor once again LOL Did I ever mention I have glasses just like his? LOL Anyways, roomy was once again impressed by my nifty little sonic screwdriver. And yes, I did resist the urge to lick the new fan LMAO
